Plenary Session 1

Exploring Opportunities for Interdisciplinary Collaboration in Public Health: A Vision for the Next 5-10 Years

Abstract

Since its inception in 2019, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Public Health Alliance has served as a collaborative platform uniting leading universities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, including Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), Southern Medical University (SMU), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), The University of Hong Kong (HKU), and University of Macau (UM). The alliance aims to elevate regional public health research, education, and social services by promoting resource sharing, interdisciplinary research, talent cultivation, and the strengthening of social health initiatives across the region.

This plenary session seeks to foster dialogue and strategic visioning for the future of public health through interdisciplinary collaboration. It will feature brief institutional presentations from alliance members, highlighting their research strengths, current projects, and collaborative efforts. Participants will then engage in a dynamic discussion on today’s pressing public health challenges, exploring emerging opportunities for cross-sector collaboration and innovation. The session will underscore the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in addressing complex health issues, and in advancing public health research, education, and practice over the next decade. Invited speakers will share their visions and strategic priorities, including strengthening regional partnerships, integrating new technologies, and fostering talent development to build resilient and adaptable public health systems. Ultimately, this session aims to inspire continued cooperation among institutions and stakeholders in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao region, paving the way for innovative, sustainable solutions that contribute to global health security and health equity.
