Biography

Professor Lin Hualiang was awarded the Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Talents of Sun Yat-sen University's "One Hundred People Program" and “Outstanding Young Medical Talents” in Guangdong Province, and has been ranked as the "Global Top 100,000 Scientists" and the “World's Top 2% Scientists”. His research focuses on the role and mechanism of environmental factors and their interaction with genetic susceptibility in the development of chronic diseases, and he proposed a new method for formulating the concentration threshold of atmospheric pollution control.

As the Principal Investigator, he has been funded by the National Key Research and Development Plan, four projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, and three projects of Guangdong Science and Technology Department. He serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Green Health, Associate Editor of the Journal of Gerontology: Medical Sciences, and editorial board member of Environment International, Cardiac and Cardiovascular Research, and The Innovation.

He has published more than 100 articles in BMJ, Lancet Public Health, Journal of Hepatology, EHP, American Journal of Epidemiology, The Innovation, EClinicalMedicine, Lancet Regional Health - Western Pacific, PLOS Medicine, Journal of Allergy & Clinical Immunology, Brain, and Thorax. Eight articles are ESI Highly Cited Papers (Top1%). His work has been cited more than 15,000 times, with an H-Index of 56. He has also published four monographs as chief editor. 

Abstract

Designated among China’s first cohort of high-level public health institutions, the School of Public Health at Sun Yat-sen University offers a first-tier doctoral programme and a postdoctoral research station in public health. It is home to the national key discipline of Health Toxicology and is recognised as a peak discipline in Guangdong Province. Aligned with national priorities, the School plays a critical role in safeguarding public health in southern China and supports the development of the Greater Bay Area.

The School maintains a comprehensive academic structure covering epidemiology, health toxicology, environmental health, health management, etc. It is supported by a distinguished faculty that includes recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and is committed to cultivating high-level public health professionals with global perspectives, interdisciplinary knowledge, and innovative capabilities.

The School houses the Ministry of Education's International Joint Laboratory of Environment and Health along with several provincial research platforms. It has developed strong research expertise in key areas such as infectious disease surveillance and vaccine evaluation, nutrition and chronic disease prevention, and the health impacts of climate change and environmental pollution. Research from the School has been published in leading international journals including BMJ and Nature Medicine, and the School actively participates in the formulation of national and industry health standards.

The School actively engages in regional public health governance networks, promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, and serves as a key member of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Public Health Alliance. It also maintains sustained and in-depth strategic partnerships with leading international institutions such as Harvard University and the University of Oxford.
