Professor Parco Siu is a Professor and Head of Division of Kinesiology at the School of Public Health and Assistant Dean (Well-being) of the LKS Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong. He obtained his PhD training in exercise physiology at West Virginia University School of Medicine followed by postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, the American College of Sports Medicine, the European College of Sport Science, and the Hong Kong Association of Sports Medicine and Sports Science. He was elected Chartered Scientist of the Science Council, Chartered Biologist of the Royal Society of Biology, and Registered Nutritionist specialised in sports nutrition of the Association for Nutrition, UK. Professor Siu has received international research awards, including the Visiting Scholar Award, New Investigator Award, and National Student Research Award of the American College of Sports Medicine. He has also received the Research Career Enhancement Award, International Union of Physiological Sciences Travel Award, Beginning Investigator Award of the American Physiological Society, and the Young Investigator Award of the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine. Professor Siu has published 142 peer-reviewed papers, comprising research articles in top-tier journals including BMJ, Annals of Internal Medicine, Lancet Digital Health, Lancet Child and Adolescent Health, JAMA Pediatrics, and British Journal of Sports Medicine. Professor Siu has been listed as a top 1% cited scholar worldwide from 2019 to 2025 according to Clarivate Analytics, and included in Stanford University’s top 2% scientists list from 2020 to 2025 according to Elsevier. His research has been featured and cited in influential national and international media including China News Service, BBC, Wall Street Journal, and Forbes. Professor Siu’s research focuses on probing the optimal exercise prescription for improving health in children, adults and seniors, with a particular emphasis on the therapeutic effects of exercise on metabolic disorders (obesity, metabolic syndrome and metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease) and brain health (depression, cognitive impairment and insomnia).
